When trying to merge payroll items, quickbooks freezes and I have to end it through the task manager & the items don't merge.

I have a ton of old payroll items that are all basically the same thing, I'm trying to clean up years of stuff here so doing each transaction isn't an option. I have QB premier plus 2023 and I've had nothing but issues since purchasing. Very frustrated after spending $1500 on a program, then an additional $500 per month for the payroll service, and it still doesn't work like it should.

Hello there, @1798376. I have some troubleshooting steps you can perform so you can merge payroll items without freezing QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

 

Before we start, let me provide details that cause your QBDT to freeze. And these are the following:

 

  • Your company name may be too long.
  • You may have a damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file.
  • You may have corruption on your hard drive.
  • QuickBooks Desktop installation or program file may be damaged.
  • You may have a damaged Windows operating system.

 

To get this fixed, let's run Quick Fix my Program from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Here's how:

 

  1. Close the QuickBooks software.
  2. Download the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Once done, open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe). Then, install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  4. Open the QuickBooks Tool Hub, then select Program Problems.
  5. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  6. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.
