Question

When you create a file extension in QB does it hold a timestamp of when the file was created? If yes, does that ever change for any reason?

We need to pull old information off a hard drive and I need to know if I can pull info based on dates instead of extension files?

Hi, mtoler.

I'm here to share information about the timestamp when you create a copy of your file.

Yes, you are correct. When creating any files, it will hold the created date information. However, if you already move or copy it from the original location where the file is saved. The date will be changed to the current date when the file is moved.

On the other hand, if it's still on the original folder or drive. You can pull up the details based on the creation date. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the location or the hard drive where the file is saved.
  2. Locate the file and right-click on it.
  3. Select Properties.
  4. Once done, you will see the created,  modified, and accessed date.

In QuickBooks Online, you can also use the audit log feature to keep track of your activities: Use the audit log in QuickBooks Online. Here you can see who made the changes to your books and what type of transaction they are.

If I can be of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to leave a comment below. Take care and stay safe!
