Question

Which quickbooks version allows me to input payroll expenses but not pay them online through quickbooks. I am currently using self employed and not seeing an option.

QuickBooks provides everything you need and I'm here to guide you how, tonyarenaturbota.

 There are a few things that you'll have to keep in mind and we'll help you make the best choice. QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Self-Employed are two different versions. The main difference between both programs is that QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) is designed for Independent Contractors, while QuickBooks Online (QBO)  is for Small Businesses.

If you're an Independent Contractor and need to separate your business and personal expenses, you can use QBSE. However, for any payroll-related concerns, you can use QBO. Learn how to upgrade to QBO. For more information, check this article: Switch From QuickBooks Self-Employed To QuickBooks Online.

For your reference, you can get your transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed by downloading transactions. To give you more details, read this article: Export Transactions And Get Reports In QuickBooks-Self Employed.

Feel free to let me know if you need further assistance with payroll expenses. I'll be right here to help you always.

@tonyarenaturbota

You can utilize Journal Entry and the feature is only available on QB Online.
