Why aren't employee wages reported quarterly when they are exempt from Unemployment Insurance in Ohio?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, @danhooley.

Let's figure out the cause of this quarterly tax-exempt report and fix it to keep you going with your task.

You'll want to review how you set up your taxes first. Then, ensure to check your employee's payroll Tax Withholding settings if the box for SUI tax exemption is ticked. This way, your employees can claim an exemption and be able to report quarterly. If you need more clarification, you can reach out to a tax advisor on how to proceed or the best options for handling this process.

I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Payroll menu, then select Employees.
  2. Select your employee from the list.
  3. From Tax withholding, choose Edit.
  4. Go to Tax Exemptions.
  5. Ensure to untick the SUI box for Ohio.
  6. Click Save once done.

Then, you can pull up a Payroll Summary report to check employee's wages. If the issue persists, you can contact our QuickBooks Online Payroll Support Team. They can check this issue further and find a possible resolution.
