Why does QBs online want a copy of my social security card and driver's license.  QBs online threatened to close our account if I don't provide this. I don't feel comfortable giving MY PERSONAL INFORMATION to QBs when I am not an employee of QBs. I sent it in but now I am waiting to be scammed. Someone in Nigeria will open accounts in my name with my personal information. I am not an owner of the company.  It is a non-profit and doesn't have an owner, it is run by a board of directors that changes every two years.  I volunteer for the company, doing their bookkeeping and payroll.  We have had direct deposit and auto payroll for years but all of a sudden, I received an email requesting.  I called QBs 14 times, and no one can explain why they need this.  No one made me feel safe providing it but threatened to cut off our payroll if I didn't provide it.  I was told it was for my safety????!!!!  Sending my personal info is for MY safety.  They said they needed to verify my personal info.... what are they verifying it against.?  I am not an employee; I am a volunteer.  I do not sign on the bank accounts.  I have been volunteering and doing the bookkeeping and payroll for 10 years and never had this come up.  We have had direct deposit and auto payroll for years.  Does anyone know what is going on?  Should I be concerned?  Who should I report this to?

Your organization's security is our top priority, Mima. I acknowledge that protecting your private information is a great challenge, especially if you're unsure whether the personnel asking for this data is legitimate.

That said, allow me to provide information on the scenarios when QuickBooks requires checking your details. Also, I'll share resources on how to identify possible scam-related activities.

Since you're using direct deposit (DD), QuickBooks will ask for your organization's Principal Officer's Social Security Number (SSN) and some documentation to prove their identity. It occurs in cases where there are some issues with processing transactions through DD. Please know that we can't support customers who don't have SSNs.

Furthermore, the principal officer or admin will receive additional requirements via email. These can include updating the primary principal's information on file and providing documentation for the primary principal. Here is the complete list of the required information and documentation:

  • Name and Date of birth.
  • Social Insurance number.
  • Bank information.
  • Valid Government IDs.

For more information about the Payroll or Merchant services confirmation process, kindly review this article: Verify your principal officer and business identity for payroll or payments accounts.

Meanwhile, you can check these resources to ensure you can avoid or submit your concerns about malicious activities and review the complete list of legitimate Intuit email addresses:

You can also contact our Support Team again. This way, you'll get timely updates and further information regarding your payroll-related concerns.

Finally, you may review this link to learn about the taxes and forms handled by QuickBooks on your behalf: Understand the taxes and forms that QuickBooks payroll submits for you.

We always value your privacy and security. If you have more questions about handling probable scams and fraudulent activities or need help with your payroll transactions, hit the Reply button. We in the Community are always here for you.

  • Intuit's email address ends with @intuit.com and @e.intuit.com.
  • Any link we send you in an email will always be for an intuit.com address.

@Ivan_G   Have you ever heard of Phishing?  Phishing emails will and DO end the EXACT same way. The scammers have figured out how to use ALL email addresses to scam others. (Yes, including QB email addresses).

Do some research before you continue spreading these tales.  Phishing is a REAL problem.  QB and all employees are only making it worse. Especially when a lot of the scammers are working for your company.

Had the same thing happen to me.  I had a fairly simple question and after 20 minutes of giving our EIN, my full name, address, owners name etc, I still had not been given an answer- I just disconnected and then googled it. Thank goodness for youtube.
