Question

Why wasn't the "class" used for employee wages/taxes in August, 2024 as it has in the past??

August payroll used "non-specified" as the class for August, 2024. In the past, it used the "class" code assigned to that employee in the Payroll Settings information.

I've got ways to ensure class codes apply to your transactions when running payroll in QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBOP), @bookkeeperbeacon.

First, ensure that the class is still active in the Payroll Settings. Once confirmed, I recommend opening your account in an incognito window to bypass potential browser issues. Use these shortcuts depending on your browser:

  • For Google Chrome browser: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • For Mozilla Firefox browser: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • For Safari browser: Command + Shift + N

After resolving the issue in the incognito window, return to your original browser to clear its cache or utilize another compatible one if needed.

In the meantime, we can update the previous payroll transactions to apply the classes retroactively. To do that:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Payroll Settings.
  2. Click the Pencil icon in the Accounting section.
  3. Go to the Update Transactions section and select the Pencil icon to edit.
  4. Add a Start Date and an End Date.
  5. Click Save.

Moreover, consider inviting your employees to QuickBooks Workforce to allow them to view and access their pay stubs and W-2s at any time.

Please be comfortable to reach out back to us if you have other questions about payroll classes in QBOP. The Community is here 24/7 to lend you a helping hand. Keep safe and have a good one.
