Why when I manually enter my last tax payment I made prior to switching to QBO, does it say I am overpaid, but does not show in my tax payment list?

When I hit the resolve button, it tries to apply the payment to the 3rd quarter.

Hi there, @msalamone-buholt. I'm here to explain the overpayment issue you're having with your QuickBooks Online tax payments.

 

QuickBooks Payroll adheres to the State's and IRS's fixed rates. Also, when dealing with penalties and interest paid to the tax agencies, we shouldn't record these together with the tax due. It will result in an overpayment. We should record these payments as an expense in your QuickBooks Online.

 

If you have made an overpayment, you may apply it to the following quarter or request a refund at any time. Contact our support team for the further assistance.
