Question

Why won't my Ohio local school tax calc correctly? ex. $1280 paycheck, tax rate 1% s/b $12.80 w/held, but QB is only w/holding $12.55. Any ideas?

I have 2 employees in the same school district, one calculated correctly the other does not.  And he has no deductions to reduce the calculation either.

Hello, WCE2016.

I'd like to point us in the right direction to help us fix the incorrect Ohio local tax calculation on one of your employees.

An incorrect tax rate may have been assigned to that employee, despite being under the same district as the other one. QuickBooks Online automatically assigns a rate when setting up the local taxes.

We're unable to manually override or check the rate directly within QuickBooks, so we'll want to contact our payroll support. They can use their tools to verify the tax rate under that employee, then correct it for you. They can also help you override the amount on the paycheck.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. Click the Help menu.
  2. Go to the Search tab on the pop-up window.
  3. Proceed with Contact Us.
  4. In the box, we can enter "QuickBooks incorrectly calculating Ohio local school tax rate for one employee."
  5. Hit Continue.
  6. Choose how you want to reach us (phone or chat).
