Adding a new employee error message

Hi,

I'm trying to set up a new employee in Quickbooks and receiving the message "Since this employee’s start date is after the current tax year, please wait to add them to your payroll until after you run your final payroll for the year."

My tax year is 31 December and the start date was 1 October 2024.  I've tried earlier and later start dates as a test but I still get the same message! 

Any ideas?
