The employee is shown as on Maternity leave but when I click on SMP I am asked to fill in all the fields already entered at the start of her maternity leave. Is this correct?

Hello, @MG14.

I want to shed some more details about the Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Yes, it is correct. QuickBooks automatically recognizes the return to work date of an employee on maternity leave as long as the entered Leave Periods on the employee's profile is accurate.

You can reach out to our Payroll support team if this isn't the case. They can check your account securely and further assist you in handling SMP accordingly. To contact support, please follow the steps below how:

  1. From the Search tab, click Contact Us.
  2. Enter your question and select Continue.
  3. Review and Select from the following: Ask the communityHave us call you, or Chat with us.

You'll want to know more details on how SMP is calculated. Please see this article: Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) in QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll.

Also, QBO has several ready-made reports that you can access to view your employee and business information. To get started, see this link: Run payroll reports.
