EPS is not generated when I process zero payroll

I followed the instructions for processing this month's payroll where no employees were paid but no EPS was generated for HMRC.

Can anyone help with this?

Hello there, Koala77 and Warehouse2.

The EPS report shows EPS data that have been previously sent, not the EPS data that would be sent. With that said, if it's early in the tax year or you've recently migrated, then it's unlikely to contain any data.

You can also refer to this list, as to when you're required to file an EPS:

  • If no payments to employees have been made within the current or past pay period (no payment period is indicated). In other words, no FPS filings have been submitted.
  • To claim reimbursement for statutory payments (not including sick pay).
  • To claim the Employment Allowance, if entitled.
  • To show CIS Suffered for a period of time.

If you're having these requirements of being able to file EPS and unable to submit your tax form, you'll want to reach out to our Phone Support Team so they can look into your payroll setup and walk you through submitting your EPS.

You can check out this article for more details about submitting your EPS: Submit EPS to HMRC in QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll.

I'll be right here to help if you need further assistance. Take care!

Mine is generated but continuously rejected by HMRC.  Tearing my hair out last month and this month.  HMRC blames QB, and Quickbooks blames HMRC.
