I can't find any entries in our Bank Current Account for the payroll amounts - I checked it is set up for the right bank in settings, but I also can't find any journals for the payroll amounts?

Hi Maryjo

sorry but this hasn't answered my questions.

Payroll is all set up in QBO and I have run my first payroll, but there are no payroll items in the chart of accounts so presumably, that is why the payments aren't show as coming out of the bank account?

I don't know how to sort it all out though

Hello there, mattymoo,

When you run payroll, QuickBooks automatically creates a journal for accounting postings. However, upon check it here, we have an ongoing investigation about journals not posting.

As a workaround, you'll have to create the payroll journals manually for your employees.

Furthermore, I recommend contacting our Customer Care team. They can add your account to the list of affected users. Here's how:

  1. Click the Help menu.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Enter INV-43847.
  4. Click Let’s talk.
  5. Choose a way to connect with a live agent.

I'm always here anytime you need additional help.

Greetings, @mattymoo.

To ensure we're on the same page, I'd like to verify if you've connected your bank account in QuickBooks Online (QBO) in which it is not downloading payroll transactions?

If yes, please know that QBO is a read only-app. It will bring in transactions based on the data posted into your bank. If transactions are not yet downloaded into QuickBooks, I recommend performing a manual refresh.

Here’s how:

  1. In the left menu, click Banking.
  2. Go to the Banking tab.
  3. Hit the Update button from the upper right hand.

For a detailed explanation about this process , you can check this article: What to do if bank transactions won’t download or there's a bank error.

However, if you mean something else, please provide additional details for me to provide the resolution for you.

If you have any other follow up questions, let me know by commenting below. I'm here for you. Have a great day!

Hi Mirriam

Thank you for your reply.  No I haven't connected QBO to my bank account yet as I still have some setting up to do on the system - I've just started using it and my migration from QB Desktop did not work..

I don't quite understand your reply though.  If I pay a bill or write a cheque in QBO, then once the bank feed is downloaded it will match to that existing transaction.  So if I've run the payroll, should it not work in the same way - ie the entries show in the bank account & the bank feed from my bank matches to those existing payroll transactions?

Also though, I can't see any payroll expense or liability accounts in my chart of accounts (I've checked the hidden ones too).  Should they not be there?

Hello, @mattymoo

You'll have to set up up your payroll after switching from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

For Chart of Accounts, bank account numbers and notes won’t convert to QBO. Also, some payroll info doesn’t transfer because QuickBooks Desktop has more payroll features. Check the following article for more information: What to expect when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

After converting from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can print or save your payroll reports in QBDT to help you set up your payroll in QBO.

Stay in touch if you have any other concerns. I'm always here to assist. Take care and have a great rest of the day!
