I appreciate you for adding your first post here in the Community, @mcgraine-outlook. I'm here to help you with viewing how much tax you've paid in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To get started, may I know the specific error message you've received why you aren't able to verify your government gateway? This way, we can take some actions to isolate the issue.

On the other hand, yes, you can view how much tax you've paid without signing into http://gov.co.uk/. You can do it following these steps:

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Click on Taxes at the left pane, then select VAT.
  3. The list of payments is displayed, hit View.
  4. This opens a transaction report that lists all your VAT payments. You can adjust the date range or select Customise to further refine the report.

In case you need help with checking how much sales tax you owe in the future, use the VAT Liability report for this matter. Here's how: Check how much VAT you owe in QuickBooks Online.

For more tips while customising your reports in QBO, you can open this article: Customise reports in QuickBooks Online.
