I enter 13 on the number of staff to be furloughed on the HMRC claim but they say you can’t enter more than goes through my payee on QB . 13 people go through my payroll with you

Hi there, SC22.

Since you've verified that you have 13 employees set up in QuickBooks and have to go through for payroll already, I suggest checking the setup for tracking furloughed employees. This way. you're able to verify if there's missing information upon filling up the form.

Here's how:

  1. Start your pay run, and then click Edit next to one employee.
  2. Choose Add/edit a Bonus or Other Payment.
  3. Click the Plus icon at the top of the box and select Other Earnings as the type.
  4. Name the item something along the lines of Furloughed Employee Pay.
  5. Enter the employee’s payment amount for the period.
  6. Edit all other Furloughed employees on the pay run, and add in the payment category you have created.

Once done, save and view the draft. Then, submit your payroll to HMRC again.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting the HMRC. They can figure out why you're unable to enter that number of employees furloughed. That way, they might be able to provide you the other ways on how to enter them as furloughed in HMRC.

Please check this article to see information about a furloughed employee: COVID-19: Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. This provides details on how much should you pay your employees.
