Question

I go to location E three times weekly. I’ve just done a few ad hoc trips close by to location C. Quickbooks has confused the two places. Now all my trips to E are labelled as C and I’d like to know how to change this?

Hi there, sylvestersits.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. I'll share details on how the trip location works in QuickBooks Self Employed. Then, troubleshooting steps to ensure that tracking your mileage in the system is accurate.

Once you travel for work and plan to write off your trips, using the QuickBooks Self-Employed app to track your mileage is very valuable. This is because QuickBooks automatically detects and tracks everything from start to finish or QuickBooks take care all of the trips entry. That said, you'll have to manually change each trip that has been done to the correct location.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Miles or Mileage menu.
  2. Select the Reviewed tab.
  3. Find and select the trip.
  4. Click the pencil icon to edit the details.
  5. Make your change. Then, click Add.
  6. Choose Save.

Once done, I recommend resetting the QBSE App. This refreshes the settings to ensure location or trips will be loaded correctly. This will also help us clear out the stored files which impact and causes problems in the system.

To do that:

  1. Click Help on the navigation bar at the top.
  2. Select Reset App Data.
  3. Allow a moment for the process to complete, and then close the app.
  4. Be sure to right-click the app and Run as Administrator when re-opening.

I'm also adding the articles below to view different instructions on how to fix problems about tracking work trips on your mobile devices.

Let me know how it goes or if you still have a further concern about tracking mileage by leaving a reply below. I'm always here to help you out. Take care always.

Thank you. I can’t edit the name back to location E, I get an error message saying “Something went wrong. Please try again” and it’s been happening for several days. I’d like to change it back before I reset anything as currently all my E’s are named as C!

I'm here to ensure you can edit your location name, @sylvestersits.

Let's start the troubleshooting steps in access your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) account in an incognito browser. There are times that the saved cache can get corrupted and damaged over time that caused issues when running the program.

Below are the shortcut keys you can use:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

When signed in, edit the location name again. If this works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache. If the same thing happens, you can use another supported browser

You can also add frequently visited locations as your favourite. This will help you easily manage and track trips in QBSE.

Should you have any other concerns editing your location name, feel free to post here again. I'm always here to help and ensure your needs are met.
