Hello there, Kirsteen. We'll be happy to help you create zero paychecks inside QuickBooks Online (QBO).

In QBO, if you're processing paychecks for salaried employees, you have the Skip salary this time-only option, which allows you to create a paycheck with zero net pay. For hourly-type employees, you can choose not to include them by unchecking the box beside their name when creating a

 paycheck. Here's how:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the left navigational bar, go to the Payroll tab and select Employees.
  3. Click the Run payroll button. If you have a pay schedule, select which schedule you want to use for this payroll.
  4. Select Continue.
  5. Choose a salary-based employee, and then click on the amount below the Salary section.
  6. Click the Radio button beside the Skip salary this time only.
  7. Select the Apply button.

However, if you're required to create zero paychecks for hourly/salaried employees inside the program, you can have a deduction item that you can use to offset the net amount in your employee's paycheck. We'll write down the steps to help you get through this:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the left navigational bar, go to the Payroll tab and select Employees.
  3. Click the Run payroll button. If you have a pay schedule, select which schedule you want to use for this payroll.
  4. Select Continue.
  5. Choose the employee you want to create a zero paycheck.
  6. Below the Actions column, click the Three dots icon.
  7. Choose Edit paycheck.
  8. Choose which deductions you want to add until your employee's net pay is zeroed out.
  9. Once done, click the Save button and then Preview payroll button.
  10. If everything checks out, click the Submit payroll button and then select the Close button.
