Question

If I have enabled MTD, logged into HMRC AND made my return AND had my email to say my return has been accepted, why am I getting the "can't connect to HMRC" message?

Good day, @chardwickegarner.

Glad to hear that you now have the modernised tax system. I'm here to help share some insights about the message that you received.

The message that you received can be caused by the following:

  • You have not signed up for Making Tax Digital.
  • You have signed up for MTD recently and are not set up on HMRC yet.
  • You've entered an incorrect login credential.
  • You've not enabled yourself to file for this company with HMRC.

To get this sorted out, you may click on the Learn More tab on the page where you received the message. Once done, you may follow the solutions that will prompt on the screen.

For complete details about this process, please see these links:

If the issue persists after performing the steps above, I'd suggest getting in touch with our Customer Care Team. They have tools that can further isolate this matter.

Please let me know how it goes. My doors are always open if there's anything else you need. Take care!
