Let's submit your VAT return without delay, @mike294.

Once you know why HMRC rejects your VAT return, you'll have the option to resubmit it. QuickBooks Online (QBO) won't allow you to file or cancel them if:

  • You aren't logged in as the account's Admin.
  • Browser-related issue due to the corrupted web files.

To get around this issue, please make sure to sign in as the Master or Company Admin. This way, you can resubmit your returns seamlessly.

Also, your browser's piled-up cache can cause unexpected QBO behavior. Cache speeds up basic browsing to load pages quickly. However, they become outdated over time and cause issues like this.

To isolate this, you can use a private browser when performing the said task. Private mode prevents storing cache that can cause problems when running websites. Thus, a perfect place to fix unexpected QuickBooks behavior.

Here are the shortcut keys you can use to access one:

  • Ctrl+ Shift + N for Google Chrome .
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Mozilla Firefox  and Microsoft Edge .
  • Command + Shift + N for Safari .

After that, sign in to QBO and resubmit your VAT return. If you're now able to do it this time, you can clear your original browser's cache. This helps delete the corrupted internet files so the system can start fresh again.

Another option is to use a different web engine.

Once done, you can record your tax payments in QBO to keep your information up-to-date. You can also check your filing status to monitor it. Please head to steps 3 and 4 in this link for more details: Record and check filing status in QBO.
