Payroll EPS Filing

Is anyone else not able to file their EPS via Core Payroll as Quickbooks is saying there is an error.

It is saying the following......

Error submitting filing electronically. Error reason:You cannot submit filings out of order. They must be submitted in chronological order. If you have recently submitted a filing, please wait for it to become Accepted or try again in a few minutes.

How do I overcome this?

I appreciate you notifying us here on this thread, ben156.

As per checking, there's an ongoing investigation when receiving errors after filing EPS via QuickBooks Core Payroll. Please know that our engineers are already aware of this issue and implementing measures to provide a timely resolution.

With that, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team to have your account information added to the list of affected users. This way, you'll receive updates regarding the status of the investigation and ensure you'll get back to business. To do this:

  1. Go to the Help icon and choose the Search tab.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Describe your concern or enter INV-115074 and click Continue.
  4. Choose between Chat with us and Have us call you.

In addition to that, you can set up RTI (Real-Time Information) reporting to automatically send EPS to HMRC at the scheduled time.

Furthermore, if you're having payroll issues or seeing error codes, this reference can help you fix it: Fix common payroll issues and error codes.

If anything arises, our team is always available for any additional help. Just keep us posted in the comments below. Stay safe.

Just to follow up from this.. I am still waiting for this illusive fix to be presented to me! I have been calling Quickbooks every day for 2 weeks as the response from them is appalling. What has happened to Quickbooks customer service? Nobody seems to know what the problem is, when it might be fixed or nobody is able to call me either to explain.

Hi Ben

I too am having this issue and Quickbooks closed my case, but not the investigation apparently, but i am not receiving any updates, and havent been able to submit for two months!  I emailed a couple of times and they say they have no record of my query.  I am very confused.  I was happy with standard payroll - this issue is only since being upgraded to core payroll.  I do hope there is a fix soon.

It sounds like one of your previous filings was rejected, which might be causing the issue. Since you have switched to Core Payroll, you may not be able to see those rejected filings now.

Additionally, this error message often appears when the Full Payment Submission (FPS) hasn’t been successfully filed before the Employer Payment Summary (EPS). Since filings must be submitted in chronological order, you will need to ensure all FPS filings for the relevant period have been accepted before attempting to submit the EPS.

To resolve this:

1. Check your previous FPS filings. Make sure they have been submitted and accepted.

2. Confirm the status of any rejected filings and resubmit if necessary.

3. Retry submitting the EPS once all FPS filings are successfully processed.

Hi Dominika,

No, sadly this is a fault with the core payroll software. I have been told that it is a coding error with the software and the error is yet to be found and resolved. I too have not been able to submit and EPS since November which has cause me to receive fines from HMRC. It is a massive problem that Quickbooks has caused many many of us.

I know this is a bigger issue with QuickBooks, and you probably already tried a few things, but while waiting for them to fix it, you could try this just in case:

Go to Taxes > Payroll Taxes, then re-enter your Government Gateway ID and password (even if it’s saved, it might help to refresh it). From there, check if you can submit any missing FPS filings. Some might need to be re-submitted before EPS goes through.

Might not be a fix, but worth a shot while waiting for QuickBooks to sort this out!
