Started using Quickbooks payroll after the start of the tax year and have just noticed the starting position is wrong. It will not let me overwrite, how can I correct it?

Just to clarify, did you already run payroll? While I wait for the details, I’ve laid out some steps to fix the issue.

If you’ve created a paycheque, delete it so you can update the Payroll History. Let me guide you through the steps.

Here’s how:

1. Go to Employees on the left panel, then select Payroll.
2. Under Payroll History, select the paycheques to be deleted.
3. On the Payroll details page, click on the Thrash icon.
4. In the Delete this payroll? window, make sure to read the reminders and type YES in the field box.
5. Choose Delete.   
6. Go to the employee’s profile, then click on the Pencil icon for Pay history.
7. In the Other employers have paid window, enter the correct amount.
8. Click on Save.

However, if you haven’t run payroll yet, update the year to date amount for each employee. Let me show you how.

1. Go to Employees on the left panel, then choose Employees.
2. Select the employee you’re working on.
3. Click on the Pencil icon for Pay history, and input the correct amount.
4. Choose Save.

There you go. The payroll data should now be in tiptop shape.
