Everytime I create an invoice it marks it as paid. It has the payment method as direct debit on the invoice and I can’t change it.

It's possible that the customer has an existing credits that was automatically applied to the invoice. Let me walk you through in verifying your credit automation settings.

 

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear Icon.
  2. Choose the Account and Settings.
  3. Select the Advanced menu. 
  4. Scroll down to the Automation section.
  5. Remove the check mark for Automatically apply credits.
  6. Click Save

Once completed, you can create now create an invoice.
