I want to add invoices for this financial year but I have only just started using quickbooks. Can I recreate the invoices with the old number? Also my purchases

You can enable custom invoice numbers to add your invoices with the old numbers to QuickBooks:

1. Click The Gear icon at the top. 
2. Select Custom Form Styles. 
3. Click Edit on the template you’re currently using. 
4. Go to the Content tab. 
5. Click the header part of the template. 
6. Select Use custom transaction numbers under Form. 
7. Click Done. 

However since you're new to QuickBooks, you can also try importing your old invoices to QuickBooks via our Import Invoices feature. This may save you time from manually adding all the invoices, especially if your old software allows you to export the invoices to Excel.
