Question

Is there a way to add Custom Field to a Customer?

Wanting to add a Custom Field to selected Customers and to print this on Delivery Notes.

Is this possible, I cannot see how at the moment.

The idea is that some customers need specialised deliveries and cannot use standard freight. Coming from MYOB I did this by adding a custom field to the Customers File. This field was added to delivery dockets so when packing it was easily seen that special arrangements were required for freight.

I see this as a two part problem currently, cannot have a custom field in Customer Details and cannot customise the Delivery form. Am I correct?

You can customise the Delivery Note, 1231 4640 0483 504.

The Delivery Note's content depends on your Standard template. Changes made on the Standard form will affect your Delivery Note.

Also, to add a custom field, we need to turn on the Custom fields first. Then, from the invoice or sales receipt, enter the information you'd like to add. Please follow these steps:

    1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and Settings.
    2. From the Sales tab, select the Sales form content section.
    3. Put a check on the Custom fields tick-box.
    4. Enter a name. Then, Save.

Once done, create an invoice or sales receipt as usual. On the custom field you've created, enter the information. Then, you can now print the delivery note.

You're now able to create a custom field on your delivery note. If need further assistance about the delivery note, please let me know.

Thanks for reply but not a solution to my issue.

I understand adding custom field to invoices and do a one, Purchase Order Number.

However I was wanting to add a Custom Field to a Customers Details and print this on each Invoice and Deliver note. The way each time  we invoice a customer the details are automatically added to the Invoice & Deliver note.

The reason is I have over 700 customers, and about 20 we need to ship via a different method.

Rather than tying to remember who the 20 special customers are, would want a field in the customers details to help identify them when I raise and invoice for them.

    Hi 123146529767419,

I can see your point on the need to have this set for selected customer and it makes sense why you would require this.

At the moment however, the custom field can be added to the invoice template and it applies to all invoices created in the system. It cannot be set-up for selected customers unfortunately.

Please let us know if you have further questions regarding this. We will be happy to help the best way we can.

    Have a lovely Monday!

    @MCozzie

    Yes, you're correct.

Currently, manage custom fields to the "Customer Information" window feature is only available in the QBO Advanced plan. Unfortunately, it's not available in other plans (Plus, Essentials, Simple Start) at this time.

This option should be available on all QBO versions.  My clients have a code from the manufacturer and it needs to be shown on the invoice. I don't want to type the code in the standard custom field box each and every time I send an invoice. I'd like it auto generated direct from the customer information page like the rest of the client's information onto the invoice.

This "premium" feature seems pretty basic to me. Seems like QBO made it part of their top tier "Advanced" for no other reason but to drive people up. How can adding a simple account number field to a customer be that difficult on the back end?

Intuit assigns me, a customer, a number. So I think they know it's important for businesses to keep track of us, using numbers. Seems pretty pathetic not to have this feature.

Competition is growing so Keep your customers happy Quickbooks!!!

Also think Custom Field should be add to all the plans.

I would say its a basic feature that let you customise the system for a many different varieties of companies,

Every business that has a list of customers needs to have a unique id, such as Account #s.  Without the ability to add a custom field such as account number in QB online make the software weak and inefficient to use.  It is the single most important feature that needs to be added to any version of QBO version.  I will discontinue if this is not added soon.
