Hello, bestwest. The credit will be automatically allocated, and the invoices will be marked as paid if the "Automatically apply credits" is enabled in QuickBooks Online.

This feature will automatically apply any available credits a customer has on their account to open invoices, which can result in invoices being marked as paid immediately without the customer submitting payment.

It is recommended to turn on this feature if you have clients who have regular credit balances or for instances where you receive partial payments.

To verify if the feature is on, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon. Pick Account and Settings.
  2. Head to the Advanced tab.
  3. Select the Automation section, then check if the Automatically Apply credits option is turned on.
  4. If you wish to turn off this feature, remove the checkmark.

This process will ensure that customer credits are not automatically applied to open invoices, marking them as paid.

If you want to remove the payments that were linked, you can follow these steps:

  1. Head to the Sales menu, then the Invoices tab.
  2. Look and open the invoice you have in mind.
  3. Click the 1 payment link option above the "PAID" payment status in the upper right-hand corner.
  4. Press on the link for the date.
  5. Pick the More button at the bottom part.
  6. Hit on Delete, then Yes.

Moreover, you can set up invoice reminders automatically in QuickBooks. This feature helps you save time while informing customers of their payment due dates.
