How do I add a maintenance account to QB online. I am a subcontractor, and the company I work for has a maintenance account set up to where they deduct from my pay and add money to this account. And when I need a repair they deduct from my maintenance account to pay for the repairs. How do I set this up in QB?

Hi Angie711,

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, It's great to have you here! Having the right accounts set up in your QuickBooks Online account is a definite necessity to keep your books in order. I can help point you in the right direction on how to get your maintenance account created.

QuickBooks Online automatically makes accounts for you based on the type of business you pick to help save you time. You can also add accounts whenever you need. In order to make a new account you can use the following steps.

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Select New to create a new account.
  3. In the Account Type ▼ dropdown, choose an account type.
  4. In the Detail Type, select the detail type that best fits the transactions you want to track.
  5. Give your new account a name.
  6. Add a description.
  7. Choose when you want to start tracking your finances. In the Balance field, enter the amount in the account, and determine the as of date. Enter today's date if you want to start tracking immediately.
  8. When you're done, select Save and Close.

When choosing Account Type or Detail Type it's best to consult an accountant as they are trained in what is the best fit. If you don't have an accountant no worries, we have you covered. You can go to My Accountant>Find a pro to help to find an accountant in your area to help.
