How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

Very annoying! Every 7 days when I open my company file, QB asks me to log into my Intuit account (so I can use Payments, Payroll and TSheets).  We don't use any of those features.  I shouldn't have to log into an Intuit account!  It's a security issue - I do not wish to open a connection to Intuit wherin it might have access to my organization's financials.  If we don't need Payroll, Payments or TSheets, we should not have to access an Intuit account and with so much hacking in the world today, we should not have to open up a connection to Intuit that could possibly expose our data - it's not secure no matter how much security Intuit tries to bake into it.

How do I stop Quickbooks from requesting that I log into my Intuit account?  Is there a way to turn off this nagging request - so far the best I can do is to select the option that says Remind me in 7 days.  Where is the Never remind option or the setting to turn it off or the smarts in the app to realize that I don't have any of those features enabled, so to not ask in the first place?

Question:

If you goto help > internet connection setup >  change this to no internet option

What are the ramifications of this?

Will this stop the pop up?

December 22, 2020

Hello there, @matthewamo.

Changing the option to No Internet Connection won't stop the pop-up. Connecting to the Internet Connection will help you run payroll and update QuickBooks.

Currently, the option to disable the pop-up login to the Intuit account is unavailable. This update helps ensure that the person accessing the company file is authorized. Logging in to your Intuit account and verifying your identity will help protect your data and account.

Also, I encourage checking our Help articles page to learn some tips and tricks in managing your QBDT account. From there, you can read great articles that can guide you through the steps by steps process.

Aside from making sure no credit cards are stored in QB, turning off payment prompts seems to have helped. I probably just jinxed it.

Also disabling integrated applications, which I never used in the first place. My needs are simple. QB makes things too difficult.

Except those were disabled in my business file, and no prompts, except every 90 days. Personal file, yes. GAHHH. I hope it's fixed now.

I realize we purchased a LICENSE to use the software, and we pretty much don't OWN it, but put a danged disclaimer in the license, in case some of us are just too stupid to use professional bookkeeping software securely. I'm an experienced bookkeeper AND a web designer. I don't need you to save me. And stop making us phone home to Intuit just to open a company file.

Not only is it an annoyance, it's blocking legitimate usage.  THIS IS ALSO POPPING UP WHEN A REGISTERED PROADVISOR LOGS ON TO A CLIENT ACCOUNT IN AN ACCOUNTANT'S COPY TO WHICH HE/SHE HAS BEEN ALREADY GRANTED ACCESS THRU INTUIT'S OWN SERVERS. Read: I am angry about this happening when logging on with the client's password in an accountant copy.  Intuit, if you read this, you are so concerned about someone using QuickBooks without a license, that you are, increasingly so year-after-year, making your product more and more and more difficult to use for legitmate users.

I, for one, am tired of it. I pay well over $1,000/year for my license to your products.  My clients pay you for their own licenses. Then, this year, I get a legitimate accountants copy thru your servers, having been granted access with associated passwords, and I am required to log on to an intuit account to use it. If I attempt toi use MY account, I get a message that QuickBooks has sent an email rrequesting that they approve my access -- AGAIN, since they ALREADY granted me access. The folowing message is generated:

As you don't have access to Intuit account role(s) , we’ve requested your primary admin r***6@***.net to grant you access.

Once your admin approves, you can sign in to your Intuit account with d*******@****.net.

Note: As your Intuit account d*******@****.net doesn't belong to Admin, you can stay signed in only for a single session, but not more than 24 hours. For an uninterrupted session, sign in to the company file with your own credentials.

All this is RIDICULOUS, OVERLY COMPLICATED, AND UNNECESSARY! WHEN IS INTUIT GOING TO WAKE UP AND STOP LOSING USERS TO OTHER MORE CLIENT-FRIENDLY PROGRAMS??!!

I am shocked that this thread is still going on. I have been working with Intuit Software for 10 years as an IT / Software Engineer and this has been one of the largest mistakes made by Intuit. Customers already feel insecure about their own employees having access to their information but now Intuit wants to force access upon its customers. It doesn't help that when my customers call Intuit for support, they get inexperienced Customer Support "professionals" that barely speak any English which raises a whole separate level of distrust for Intuit.

This policy is absurd and I have been asked a number of times now to find different software that I can migrate their data to. I should be excited for the work but as someone who uses QuickBooks myself, this is an utter disappointment and embarrassment. I can't even open QuickBooks without internet or my software crashes and has caused data corruption at least twice in the past week.

Congrats, Intuit, on forcing a policy that will cause a huge loss in business. Especially with all the hacks going around in the news on large companies that you don't rank anywhere near (eg SolarWinds).

I can only echo, reinforce, and validate all of the anger already expressed in this thread. I, for one, will never allow my QuickBooks software to ever connect to the Internet *ever* again. Unfortunately, to do this, you will need to muck around with Windows Firewall.

In my case, I still need my desktop software to talk to my local network server where the file is hosted. Here are the firewall settings that work for me:

It's been at least 5 months now since the last time I got that annoying popup. Am hoping it's gone for good.

The problem, in my case, turned out to be that I am a former, but not current, user of Quickbooks Payroll Service. Even though I had stopped using that service a few years ago, QB still had me flagged as "Full Payroll", under Preferences, Payroll & Employees, Company Preferences, Quickbooks Desktop Payroll Features.

I tried in vain to click the "No Payroll" box, instead of "Full Payroll", but it wasn't allowed. I contacted QB Support in a chat session and described what change I wanted to make. After giving me some warnings that this step would make it very difficult for me to use their Payroll service again, they gave me a special, temporary code to enter which gave me some elevated privileges to check "No Payroll". And the problem was solved.

So it appears that on startup, QB had been seeing this phantom setting for Payroll in my company, and that was triggering the demand that I log in to their servers. Might apply to other addins as well. If you are actively using QB Payroll then this would not be an option.

Am using QB Desktop Pro 2019.

My customer keeps getting this message via email.  It is so annoying.  I signed in and STILL we keep getting the message.  Seriously, make it stop!!

I've been just trying to X out of the question as much as possible. This was a bad step by Intuit.

Have you tried my screen shot/post on page 10?

May 24, 2021

Hi @dfosbenner,

Thank you for the prompt reply. I'll explain the process of adding users and editing roles in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Enterprise.

Using my QBDT test account, I was able to open the User and Roles page without logging into the Intuit Online account. I didn't take any new steps to get there, since it's the same steps provided by my peer @katherinejoyceO above.

See this screenshot for reference:

After you click Set Up Users and Roles, you'll get this window:

If you continue to have the same issue, I suggest contacting our Technical Support team for assistance. They can pull up your company information within a secure environment. They can then investigate why you have this issue, as well as provide a resolution for it.

See this article for the steps: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support. Please take note of their operating hours, so you know when they're available.

Post a reply if you have other questions about managing users and their roles in QBDT. I'll be around to help you out.

Gotta add my voice here. I've been following this thread for several months now, and it has been appalling to watch as QB support staff offer up obvious hogwash (e.g., "better security") when they're not just misunderstanding the question.

Stating the same complaint another way,

QB comes in a desktop version. And in an online version. Those of us participating in this thread could have bought the online version, but instead we chose to buy the desktop version, for reasons. And for an apparent majority of us, the critical reason for choosing the desktop version was the increased security we get from not exposing our data to any other party, including Intuit.

For Intuit to require this login is to open up a breach in the very security we were looking for in choosing the desktop version. Please stop pretending that this login affords us additional security. You know very well that it does not. Intuit must have some other reason for wanting us to expose our data, and whatever that reason is, we know that it is not in our interest.

So, rather than treat this as a question to be answered by support staff -- since we can see from the many pages of this thread how unsuccessful that has been -- please take it instead as a complaint and a suggestion: Stop requiring the login. We don't want it. We don't need it. We chose and paid for a product that didn't require it, and that's why we are here now.

Finally Back on track CasperH. We have to continue these posts because not only do our fellow Quickbooks owners read them, but when people google quickbooks or intuit, they will also see them.

May 27, 2021

I just started testing QuickBooks enterprise 2021 for a client and noticed this pop-up.  When I found this string I thought I would get a solution.  14 pages of comments and almost a year later, there appears there is no answer.  Support people, talk to your programmers, marketing group, and your legal staff and get this fixed.

Questions come to mind:

1. How do I disable update on Quickbook?

2. Do I need any other feature in the future or is this the last QB version?

3. Can I use this version of Quickbook until I find another option?
