How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

Very annoying! Every 7 days when I open my company file, QB asks me to log into my Intuit account (so I can use Payments, Payroll and TSheets).  We don't use any of those features.  I shouldn't have to log into an Intuit account!  It's a security issue - I do not wish to open a connection to Intuit wherin it might have access to my organization's financials.  If we don't need Payroll, Payments or TSheets, we should not have to access an Intuit account and with so much hacking in the world today, we should not have to open up a connection to Intuit that could possibly expose our data - it's not secure no matter how much security Intuit tries to bake into it.

How do I stop Quickbooks from requesting that I log into my Intuit account?  Is there a way to turn off this nagging request - so far the best I can do is to select the option that says Remind me in 7 days.  Where is the Never remind option or the setting to turn it off or the smarts in the app to realize that I don't have any of those features enabled, so to not ask in the first place?

As the main user I have entered my credentials but why is it asking other users (who don't need access to any of this information) for their user ID & password.  I don't understand why I would need to create user names for every user, and I really don't want to.

Is there a way for them to get rid of this notification without having to create a user ID & password?

Hi there, JonesDoors.

The log credentials are required to be filled out for security purposes and there are levels of roles your users can only access. So every time they enter the login credentials you set for them they can only see certain features and info based on the role you assigned.

Here's how to add users:

  1. Click Company and select choose Users
  2. Select Set Up Users and Roles.
  3. Click either the User List tab or Roles tab.
  4. Enter the login and set their access rights.
  5. Click OK to save and then Close.

You can also set your settings so you can log into a Company File without having to enter a username and password every time.

  1. Just click the Edit menu > Preferences.
  2. Select the General from the left menu and then Company Preferences
  3. Under Manage Login Settings, select Keep user logged in for and select the number of days.
  4. Click OK.

I'm just here if you have other questions in handling your company file. Take care!

Our company is getting the same prompt with a bit of a twist. The problem we face is that we have several clients for which we keep books and process payroll. They are all on our payroll subscription, and different people log in as "Admin" to work on the accounts--each person using their own Intuit account when they're working in the account. The QB prompt wants us to assign a single Intuit account to each QB file, or to say we're not using Admin. Neither option applies. I spent a long time on the phone with an Intuit employee who didn't have a clue how to resolve the issue, and It is completely aggravating. Have any of you faced a similar situation, and found a solution? (QB2019)

Users of the QB Payroll function are really screwed since there is no way out. Well, no way out as long as you use their payroll function. I resolved that some years ago by moving my payroll to ADP, which is far better anyway. ADP can also provide for workers comp insurance payable along with your regular payroll so there are no surprises or large make up payments due at the end of the term. They can also include 401k if you provide that.

Bottom line is, ditch QB payroll and switch to ADP, or any other independent payroll service. You'll be happy having done so, and will have one less thing tied to Intuit.

Best!

Please Intuit, make this feature optional. It is not only our internal usage of your product but nearly all of our customers that we support are unhappy (some are furious) with this unwanted "feature". Please get it through your thick heads to listen to your customers.

I agree.  Why does QB need to force it's users to do stupid things?  Of course, there's probably nobody home at Quickbooks to ask that question.  I like QB but this has gone too far.  Who has time to fool around with questions and answers?

Thank you for posting this comment. If there was a better option besides Quickbooks, I would gladly use it!

Exactly the problem I am having.  I just want to use my program without BIG BROTHER poking around in it.  I have a desktop because that is all I want!!. I don't intend to use any of the added features $$$$$ that Intuit is pushing.  Let me have my privacy and do my work without an hour delay each week!Q!!

.02 more on this.

I have a 90 year old customer trying to maintain LOCAL accounts which he has maintained for decades.  These accounts have NO PAYROLL and NO ADDITIONAL SERVICES, but Intuit is working hard to make his job virtually impossible.

In just the last two years:

1) He was forced to upgrade to a more recent version because his client did (fine, client may have had reasons, but it's also likely Intuit forced the upgrade by disabling something).

2) When creating files with the new version, he was suddenly and without reason REQUIRED to set a password for a new company file which ONLY HE WOULD EVER access on ONE LOCAL PC.

3) Another year later, he goes back to open files he created the previous year and suddenly Intuit REQUIRES not only the password he didn't want, but now he must login to an online account . . . TO ACCESS A LOCAL FILE which uses NO additional services!

This 90 year old man used to simply double-click to open a client's company file.  Now he must perform two additional AND POINTLESS steps to do exactly the same work.

4) Worse yet, the additional steps don't even work.  When logging in, Intuit has thus far forced him to to get a code by email . . .  and again by phone EVERY TIME.   He never asked for 2FA.  Why is Intuit requiring 3FA? (answer: cheap offshore developers only know specs, they don't know how to write good code).

As so many others have said, adding all these additional steps provides ZERO SECURITY VALUE to a desktop user.  What Intuit has done is make sure this super nice 90 man has multiple IRRELEVANT and USELESS tasks he must complete before opening a LOCAL FILE with Quickbooks DESKTOP.

Want to guess what my advice is to a thousand or so other tech support clients?  Don't dare upgrade Quickbooks unless you have no other option.  INTUIT DOESN'T CARE.  This thread being either ignored or misunderstood by Intuit is proof.

Oh Look... another sign of high-tech quality software... Every day when I login to my computer, this window comes up and freezes... super great software Intuit!

Now they will not let me into my company file without creating an Intuit Account. I am totally blocked from my company information.

This cannot be legal. This is a huge security breech.

Is this a situation for a class action suite?

We purchased the desktop version because we did not want any online connection to our business. We want absolutely zero online access to our business. We do not use payroll or any other intuit service.

Now Intuit is trying to force us into installing a huge hole in our security.

This is just wrong

I must agree with the added annoyance of the Intuit Level Sign In.  Our company used to share the admin sign in between two people in different locations for Quickbooks.  Now the admin sign in adds that you must enter your intuit sign in.  My intuit sign in will not work with QB Admin.  Our payroll processor's sign in with intuit seems to be linked directly to our QB Admin Sign in, so I have lost the ability to sign in as admin.  If you sign in to Intuit it makes sense that you would also need QB sign in because of multiple products.  However when you sign in to QB you should not need Intuit permissions.  My 2 cents.

I now get the update quickbooks box when I start QB after having blocked the login annoyance per instructions above. This seems to have come on after having been switched off, of its own accord. I don't want to see the update now box because I don't want to do any updates.

More and more, software companies are resorting to this "Mother may I" tactic.  The primary reason is to avoid software piracy.  Sad to say, too many people abuse the system, so the "good 'ole days" of buying a desktop or offline version of software has become non-existent.  I fully understand why software companies like Intuit, MiTek, Microsoft, etc... have you check in on a regular basis.  They are just seeing if your license is still active and that you haven't shared the install files with others that did not purchase the license.

It's annoying, yes.  But it is also our own fault.

We run our systems on a private network that is not connected to the internet for security reasons.  We have to open up the system to allow our offline software to "check in", each week.  It has just become a routine and is a choice we made to stay offline as much as possible.

Yes, annoying, as I said before, but I see their (software company's) point of view also.
