Hello there, Mahmoud.

GPS data is derived from a blend of satellites, Wi-Fi, and cellular signals. Numerous uncontrollable factors, including a device's technical limitations, weather conditions, atmospheric interference, and others, can affect the accuracy of GPS positioning. These variables can make it challenging to obtain a GPS point or determine the reasons behind location inaccuracies.

If your location is inaccurate or missing, several factors could be at play:

  • The device is in power-saving mode, airplane mode, or a low battery setting.
  • The app was force-closed (it should remain open in the background while clocked in).
  • Background data is restricted (Android) or background app refresh is disabled (iOS).
  • You're signed out of the app, not on the clock or on a break.
  • The app or the device's operating system is outdated.
  • The device is powered off or the battery has died.
  • Satellite interference is affecting your location.
  • The device is overheated or damaged.
  • You're clocked in through a computer or kiosk.
  • A timesheet was manually created or edited by your admin or manager.

To investigate, sign-in to the web dashboard and navigate to Time Entries. Locate your timesheet and view the Timesheet log. If the timesheet was created or edited by someone else, GPS points won't be displayed.

Note: The level of cellular service does not impact the retrieval of GPS points.

You can also troubleshoot your device for location inaccuracy. Follow the steps below iOS and Android.

For iOS:

  1. Restart or turn the device off and back on.
  2. Go to Settings, choose Privacy & Security, then Location Services.
    • Make sure Location Services is turned on.
    • Turn it off and back on again to refresh.
    • Find and select Workforce in the list, and set Allow Location Access to Always.
    • Turn on Precise Location.
  3. To reset all wireless radios, go to Settings.
    • Turn on Airplane Mode, and then turn it off again.
  4. To turn off battery saver settings or apps, go to Settings, then Battery.
    • Make sure Low Power Mode is turned off.
    • If you have battery saver apps, make sure the permissions are set to not include the Workforce app.

Android steps:

Note: Specific instructions for these settings may vary depending on your device. Check the specific instructions from your device’s support page if you need additional help.

  1. Turn the device off and back on.
  2. Go to Settings, then Apps, and select QuickBooks Workforce, then Permissions.
    • Click Location.
    • Choose Allow all the time.
    • Select Use precise location.
  3. Turn off any battery saver settings for the Workforce app or other battery saving apps you have.
