Question

Overtime not Calculating with Holday Hours

I'm having issues with our employee's overtime not calculating correctly whenever there is a Holiday. (Just to clarify, our employee are off on Holidays but still log their 8 daily hours.)  Any time exceeding 40 hours a week is paid at overtime, but QuickBooks isn't factoring in Holiday hours to their weekly total.  It's seeing 32 hours of ST, then 8 hours of Holiday, so any overtime the employees work is not calculating due to it seeing them as only having worked 32 ST hours.

We have overtime rules setups as anything exceeding 8 hours daily is paid at overtime, and anything exceeding 40 hours weekly is paid at overtime.

Hi there, Deven. I understand the importance of calculating the overtime with Holiday hours to have accurate time tracking. Let me share some information about this matter.

QuickBooks automatically calculates regular time and overtime entered in the program depending on the set rules. Also, all Paid Time Offs (PTO) like Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave policies, will not be included in the weekly regular hours as it is a paid time off. Thus, QuickBooks will not calculate the overtime regardless of the overtime accumulated based on the rules you set.

With this, I recommend sending feedback to our Product Development team to add this feature to future product updates. You can follow the steps below to do so:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Time account, then click the Help (?) icon.
  2. Select Suggest Idea.
  3. Enter your product suggestion, then select Send Idea.

In the meantime, you can enter the Holiday hours as a regular hour in the time entries to calculate the total overtime and add a note about this.

Additionally, you can customize overtime settings or add feature add-ons to your account.

You can also run reports in QuickBooks Time to keep track of your employee's time and other supporting reports.

You're always welcome to comment back if you have other questions about managing overtime in QuickBooks Time. The Community will be here and ready to lend you a hand.
