RECORDING SICK DAYS

I WANT TO RECORD THE DAY AN EMPLOYEE CALLS IN SICK, SO WHEN I NEED TO I CAN LOOK BACK AND SEE WHY THEY DIDNT WORK THAT DAY. HOW CAN I RECORD THAT??

Hi there, @NWTS. 

 

Thanks for visiting the Community today. I can help you set up a time off policy so you can record a time off for your employees. 

 

Here's how: 

 

  1. Go to the Payroll menu, then click Employees.
  2. Select the employee’s name, then select Edit in the Pay section.
  3. In the How much do you pay [employee]? section, select Edit.
  4. Select Paid time off, Unpaid time off, Sick Pay, Vacation Pay, or Holiday Pay.
  5. Enter hours per year and Maximum allowed hours (optional), then select OK and then Done.

 

Should you need to add hours that someone has earned, you can add those hours to the Current Balance and then select OK.

 

For future reference, you also want to give your employees more time off. Follow the steps to add more time under the How to add paid or unpaid time off section outlined in this help article: Set up and track time off in payroll.

This seems to document how to set up sick pay but how do you actually account for sick time used?

Thanks for following up on this thread, acaciakzoo. I'd be glad to provide some info about accounting for sick time in your QuickBooks Time account.

 

There are just a few steps to get this done. Here's how:

 

1. Click the Time Off tab in the left navigation menu.

2. Select the blue +Add Time Off button.

3. Choose the employee's name and click Continue.

4. Select the Sick code and enter the hours.

5. Click Save when you're finished.

 

The following linked article provides even more info about setting up and managing time off in QuickBooks Time.

I needed to do this as well, and figured out a way (no thanks to QuickBooks). You do not need to turn off Auto Payroll to update your employee's time off. 

 

1) Go to Payroll

2) Click on Overview

3) Click on Auto Payroll details 

4) Click on Update upcoming payroll

5) Enter the number of Sick Pay Hrs (or PTO or Vacation Hrs). In the Memo section, record the dates time off was taken. 

6) Click Save for Later.

You can also click on Preview Auto Payroll so you can ensure the time off was recorded accurately. 

Your payroll should run automatically as long as you made your updates before the auto payroll cutoff date.
