Question

CLASS colum is empty in reports

Hi QB community!

I need a "bank history report" including the CLASS for each transaction, but the CLASS column is virtually empty (with few exceptions in some cases) even when we know for sure that each transaction has his CLASS correctly registered (transaction detail shows the CLASS is not empty).

Please note:

* I don't need to "Group by Class", I just need the regular "bank history" but showing the CLASS column correctly (eg. not empty)

* The CLASS field is actually part of the Bank register, so I see no valid reason (other than being a bug) why this column should be empty, in other words, it seems to me this is not a "feature", but a "bug" that must be fixed.

* See picture of the problem here: https://prnt.sc/yq0xxn

Thanks for sharing a screenshot with me, @usernestor-ale.

The Class column in your bank account history report will only show the class if the class field is available in that type of transaction. I’ve added an image below for your visual reference.

Furthermore, I’ve added these links that you can use for reference in categorising your transactions and reconciling accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO):

Thanks but not helping.

As I said in my original post:

"...we know for sure that each transaction has his CLASS correctly registered (transaction detail shows the CLASS is not empty)."

So, my question remains "why the CLASS column is empty when CLASS is available in all transactions"

Please give me a solution, the links you added are completely unrelated to my question (reconciliation? categorizing? who was talking about those subjects?)

Thank you.

Thanks for providing additional details, usernestor-ale. I'm here to help figure out why the class column is empty.

Let's determine if this has something to do with your browser's cache. Too much cache can cause unusual behaviors in the program. To clear this out, try using a private browser to see if the class column is still empty.

Please check out these keyboard shortcuts:

  • For Chrome press Ctrl+Shift+N.
  • For Firefox, press Ctrl+Shift+P.
  • For Safari, hold down Command+Shift+N.

If it works, I'd recommend clearing your main browser's cache. This is to start fresh. Otherwise, try using other supported browsers

Please let me know how the steps work. I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you.

Massively frustrating.
Not a solution but a work around you've perhaps already thought of.

Export the bank account history into excel and then use vlookup from another report to populate the class field

Hi usernestor-ale, responding to your message trail of February 2021 regarding QBO and wondering if you ever found a satisfactory solution to displaying/printing CLASS codes? Recently transferred from QBDT and CLASS code had worked fine in the Desktop version, but as you discovered we are unable to see the CLASS code in the QBO bank register screen view despite a CLASS Code being assigned to the transaction. Changing VAT codes did not make any difference, but we need to track certain transactions as OOS (Outside Of Scope of VAT) as CLASS Code 1 but the screen is blank for CLASS / LOCATION column (We don't use Location). All the work arounds did not resolve the issue for us. The danger is that a mis assigned transaction could slip through as CLASS 0 rather than 1. Hoping you may have discovered a solution by now?

I see you want to display/print class codes in QuickBooks Online, @whcl01. I'd like to make it up to you by sharing some information about it.

I appreciate your great ideas and recognize your need for this feature. While this feature is still unavailable in QBO, I recommend sending us feedback about it. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, and then select Feedback.
  2. Fill in your comments or product suggestions.
  3. You can also share a photo to specify your concern, and then hit Next.
  4. Once done, click on Send message.

This would help us improve your QuickBooks experience.

For future reference, read these guides about handling VAT codes in QBO.
