Hi am new to QB and was trying to tag a journal entry for an accrual/prepayment it seems this is not possible how do people get round this to see product profitability?

You can't allocate tags to a journal entry only actual transactions, if this is a prepayment from a customer then you could create a deposit and use tags. This article for customer prepayments, the first option is for deposits when you don’t want to account for VAT and the second is for when you want to account for VAT, as above you can tag the transaction just not journals.
