I can't see anywhere a sales ledger report ie for a specific period opening balance invoices, payments and closing balance. this is such a fundemental report

QuickBooks Online has only one ledger report, which is the General Ledger. If you'd like to keep track of your sales performance and balances, there are various reports you can pull up to get the data you needed. You can choose any of the following:

• Sales by Customer Detail
• Transaction List by Customer
• Invoices and Received Payments

To customize the report:

1. Go to the Reports menu and pick the sales report you want.
2. Tap the Customise button.
3. Under General, update the Report period and the Accounting method if you see it, then click on Change columns.
   
4. Next, mark the Open Balance and Net Amount boxes under Rows/Columns.
   
5. Scroll down further until you see the Filter section. Click to expand it.
6. Select the transaction you want to see on the report by ticking them from the Transaction Type drop-down.
7. Lastly, click on Run report.
   
8. (Optional) Use the Save customization option, so you don't need to redo the changes when pulling up the same report. Saved files are moved to the Custom reports section. See sample screenshot:
