Question

Why do I have both sales and services on my profit and loss balance? I only put service as income now my profits are wrong. Any ideas how to correct?

Hello, clearbrook. Maintaining accurate financial records is essential for every business. The accuracy of the profit and loss statement depends on the selection and categorization of transactions.

The information displayed on your profit and loss statement is based on the transactions and categories you select. If you see both sales and services on your statement, it might be because both types of income in your QuickBooks Online account were recorded instead of just one.

To correct this, you'll need to review the transactions you have manually entered in QuickBooks and your downloaded bank transactions. On your Profit and Loss report page, click the amount of the Sales to open all list transactions.

Review and make the necessary changes to accurately reflect on the report. I still recommend consulting your accountant for guidance in correcting or choosing the right category for your transactions. This process will ensure your profit and loss balance is accurate.

Additionally, one of the reasons why it shows as Sales is that the items you created in QuickBooks Online are assigned to the Sales income account.

Let's check if you selected the service for the income account category for your products and services. Please follow these steps:

  1. Head over to the Gear icon. Select Product and Services.
  2. Manually double-click each item and verify if the Income account area is set as service.

For additional reference, you can customise your reports to view specific data. You can also memorise them for future use.

Keeping precise and up-to-date records and balances in QuickBooks is crucial for any business. It enables efficient tracking of income, expenses, and overall financial health. Consulting your accountant is also the best approach. If there's anything else I can help, click the reply button below. I'm still here for you.
