2 invoice numbers were accidentally marked with the wrong number - can I change them?

We are swetting up automations with my CRM and whilke testing we accidentally changed the sequence of numbers and 2 invoices were created with random numbers. We've switched it back now, but is there any way to change the numbers on the invoices that were already issued to match my sequence? Thanks

Hello there, donna94. Thanks for getting back to us.

 

Turning on the Custom transaction numbers feature helps to change the number of previous invoices. Once done, we'll see an Invoice no. field where you can enter your own numbering preferences. We can also open the past invoices and modify the number.

 

Let's take a look at this sample screenshot:

 

If you're unable to see the Invoice field, we can go back to the settings and double-check the Custom transaction numbers feature. Make sure it's turned on.

 

On the other hand, we can use an incognito window. This type of window doesn’t store any cache that causes a browser to load slowly or experiencing unusual behavior. 

 

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

 

If you can edit the invoice number, go back to their regular browser and clear its cache to prevent any unexpected behavior. They can also use other compatible browsers in QBO.

 

I'd also like to share about customizing sales forms. It guides you on how to personalize the invoice, estimates, and sales receipts.

Let's make sure that your QuickBooks account is set up so you'll be able to change your invoice numbers.

 

  1. Go to the Gear Icon.
  2. Choose the Sales menu.
  3. Scroll down to the Sales form content section.
  4. Put a checkmark on the Custom Transaction Numbers tick box.
  5. Click the Save button.
  6. Hit Done.

 

Open an invoice or any sales form, and in the Invoice no. field, enter the custom number or letter sequence you want to use for your forms. The sequence you set here applies to all sales forms.

Thanks so much  - I"m already set to custom - but I can't edit the number on an invoice I already issued - is that possible?
