Yes, andiie46. I'm here to guide you through the process of deleting an unused account from the Chart of Accounts.

When you delete (or make an account inactive), it will be removed from the Chart of Accounts and any other areas where accounts are selectable. However, any associated transactions will remain in your company data and can still be accessed via reports.

To delete an account, you will need to merge it with the Services Income account:

  • Billable Expense Income: This account tracks funds your business receives from customers to cover service-related expenses.
  • Markup: This account tracks the difference between the cost of your product or service and its selling price.

Note: you can merge non-inventory items, products, and services. Keep in mind that once accounts are merged, the original account can no longer be used. Here’s how to merge these accounts:

  1. Go to Settings and click Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the account you wish to merge in the account list.
  3. In the Action column, click the dropdown ▼ menu and select Edit.
  4. In the Edit account panel, change the Account name to match the name of the Service/Fee Income account you want to merge with.
  5. Hit Save.
  6. Confirm by selecting Yes, merge accounts.

For more details on which default or special accounts can be deleted, edited, or merged, refer to Manage default and special accounts in your QBO Chart of Accounts.

You can also enlist the help of a QuickBooks-certified bookkeeper to manage your chart of accounts: Check out QuickBooks Live.

Please let me know if you have any other questions about deleting accounts in QBO. I'm always here to help you!
