I have an expense account that I want to break out in more detail. I want to add two sub-accounts under it and then reclass those transactions to one of the two new accounts. when I go to add a new account and put it under the previous account I get an error GraphQL error: A ledger account parent account does not exist!

Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you

Let me help you get past the error message, @efish123.

A cache-related issue is likely causing the inability to add sub-accounts under an expense account. If this is the case, you can perform some troubleshooting steps. You can use a private or incognito window to rule out cache problems in your browser. Here are the shortcut keys:

  • For Mozilla Firefox browser: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • For Google Chrome browser: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • For Safari browser: Command + Shift + N

Next, log in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account and add the sub-accounts again. If it works, you can clear your browser's cache. This removes the webpage data that's causing the situation. If a private browser won't work, you can use other installed supported browsers.

If the same thing happens, you can alternatively create a new expense account, save, reopen it, and then set it as a sub-account.

In case you want to add transactions directly to an account register, you can check out this article for guidance: Manually add transactions to account registers in QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if you have any other concerns besides fixing the error in adding sub-accounts. I'm always available to help you out. Have a great day!
