I want to set up budgets for my restaurants.  We do not operate on calendar months, but rather 13-4 week accounting periods per year.  Is there a way to set up budgets on these custom accounting periods?  Currently working on QB Desktop

Thanks for reaching out to us, @JaniceSockeye. I'm here to address your concern about creating a budget using the 13 4-week accounting period in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

The budgeting feature in QBDT is set to calendar year. Currently, we're unable to modify it to 13 4-week accounting period. However, you can export your Budget report to Excel, so you can manually edit it from there.

Here's how to create a budget:

  1. Go to the Company menu, click Planning & Budgeting, then Set Up Budgets.
  2. Select Create New Budget.
  3. Set the fiscal year and choose between Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet. Click Next.
  4. If you chose Profit and Loss, select either Create budget from scratch or Create budget from the previous year's actual data.
  5. Click Finish.

Once done, run a budget report and export it to Excel. To do that:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Select Budgets & Forecasts, then Budget Overview.
  3. Click the Excel dropdown, then choose Create New Worksheet or Update Existing Worksheet.

While the option to set the accounting period to 13 4-week is unavailable, I encourage you to send feedback to our software engineers. This way, they can review your suggestion and consider including it in our future product upgrades. To do that, go to Help, select Send Feedback Online, and click Product Suggestion.

Furthermore, you can memorize the budget report to save its customization settings.

Feel free to reach out to us whenever you need further assistance with creating budgets in QBDT. I'll be always available to help. Keep safe.
