Yes, you can add payroll for contractors in QuickBooks Online (QBO), even for the year 2023, joehirsch.

If you have a subscription to payroll, you can easily add payroll for contractors. In QuickBooks Online, you can set up your contractors as vendors. QuickBooks will track all their related payments, so when you need to file their 1099s, you'll already have all their information. Follow these steps to set up your contractors:

  1. Go to Payroll, then select Contractors.
  2. Select Add a contractor and enter your contractor’s info, or select the Email this contractor checkbox so they can fill it out.
  3. When you're done, select Add contractor.

After that, proceed to creating a check to record the payments. All vendors added through payroll are automatically eligible for 1099s. QuickBooks will start tracking all of their payments behind the scenes. When you're ready to file your 1099s, you can easily add the tracked payments to the form.
