Nice to see you here in the Community, diane.

I ensure you can deduct the remaining balance of an invoice in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Beforehand, may I know how you recorded the differed amount?

If you've recorded it the same as a retainer, then you can deduct the remaining balance of the invoice by adding the differed item on the line item of the invoice. I'll show you the steps below:

  1. Click on the + New button.
  2. Select Invoice.
  3. Choose the customer's name in the Customer dropdown lists.
  4. In the Product/Service column, select the Differed item you set up.
  5. Enter the amount received for the retainer or deposit in the Rate or Amount column. Since it's a percentage, you'll need to convert it because we're unable to enter the percentage on the invoice.
  6. Then, hit Save and close.

However, if you mean something else, please let us know. You can provide us with more detailed information about your concern.
