I want to be able to edit the check template so that I can change positioning of the address and memo line.  How do I do this?

You must use QB compatible checks. You cannot edit the template, you can only select the style and adjust the alignment from the print window.

When I have tried to move the alignment, a grid prints on the top left of the check. How do I get rid of that?

Remove the check mark at alignment in the print window.

That sucks.  I use Quicken checks. Intuit should really allow you to move things around. I guess that's a way for them to maintain a monopoly over what checks will work with the software.  Although I haven't looked into it, I am assuming that is why they want to sell you special window envelopes. The  placement of the address on the checks does not line up correctly with your standard issue window envelopes.

Quickbooks should be a shame for screwing customers by holding them, hostage when it comes to envelopes. I should be able to change the template on checks so I can continue using my current checks. Now I need to throw away 3000 envelopes with my logo on it.

Thank you suggesting to make the check template customizable, CJDay. I'll share this with our engineers.

I've heard other users are able to print checks from other vendors in QuickBooks with no issues. However, we can't guarantee if checks from other vendors will always work in our program.

On the other hand, we offer compatible checks that you can use in your daily transactions. You can order through QuickBooks Checks & Supplies. Just hover your mouse's pointer on the Phone icon to get the number.

You can always go back to this thread if you have other questions on checks.

That is a horrible answer. I sincerely hope the Engineers there aren't under the impression this issue has been resolved because it certainly has not. There are many reasons to need the ability to alter the check print format including controlling which fields available will actually print. Moving the name and address lines, whether or not a check number prints, etc... This is supposed to be a broad user base compatible software and this inhibits that in a significant way. Is there any plans to give endusers the ability to freely format the check printing layout in the near future? I only ask because like many others on this thread and some I have met in person, may select a different product that would allow it so i dont have to have the added expense of having multiple check formats for one bank account. You see, often times the checks businesses print are used for more than one software program and it sucks if one of those programs doesnt allow you to use the same checks.

Hello there, @SScottKing.

I can see that a lot of customers have the same need about being able to customize the check print format. Ideas like this help identify what we need to improve on.

When the check stubs print, the lines are printing improperly so they are layering on top of each other, making it difficult to read the text. On the checks themselves, the numerical value of the check is not lining up where the dollar sign is located. Additionally, the asterisks after the written-out amount are spilling into the numerical value field.

Is it possible to change the alignment of the text for both the checks and corresponding check stubs on QuickBooks online?

Hello there, Anon748.

Let me help you align your checks when printing them.

You can set up your print settings for either standard or voucher checks. Let's make sure that your printer is set up for QuickBooks so your checks align and print out correctly. I'll show you how to use the print setup and align your printer settings.

Before you start, try printing using a blank paper for your test prints. That way you won’t waste actual checks if you need to fix the check alignment.

  1. Select + New and click Print checks.
  2. Click Print setup and select your check type, voucher or standard.
  3. Select View preview and print sample. Then select Print.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to finish printing your sample check.
  5. Put the sample print under an actual blank check and see if they line up correctly.

If it still doesn't line up correctly, you can follow step 2 on this article and the proceed to the next steps if the same thing happens: Print a check in QuickBooks Online.

I'm just around the corner to keep an eye on your response. Just mention me in your post or reply. Take care!

Quickbooks, have you fixed this issue? I called about four weeks ago (December 2022)  about this very issue - I am new quickbooks online user, and the representative told me it was an issue that quickbooks was working on. Sounds like quickbooks has had this problem for years and never fixed it???? That is very disappointing.

I want to use "blank checks" for the print check function.  I have found where I can enter the payor name, address, etc. however an Alignment Grid appears on the template where the amount of the check appears..  I do not want to change the position of the amount, I just want to printout the check with the payor information.  I can print it out, but the grid is included.  How do I get rid of the Grid in the template?  Atttempted to send an image but this conversation box will not accept a jpeg.

Could you help me get rid of the Grid in my template?
