Question

Can I format an invoice's time entries in hour-minute (0:00) format?

FYI, I export my time from TeamWork.com (TW) to QuickBooks Online (QBO). The time comes in as decimal portions of an hour and shows a varying number of significant digits, which looks awful. For example, one hour shows as "1" whereas an hour and a half shows as "1.5" and an hour and 20 minutes shows as something like "1.3333" I would much prefer 1:00, 1:30, and 1:20. If that's not an option, uniform significant digits would be OK (e.g., 1.00, 1.50, and 1.33)

Hi there, josephllc.

Good to see you here in QuickBooks Community. Allow me help and to provide some insights about the time format in QuickBooks Online.

The data QuickBooks receives depends on how TeamWork.com (TW) shares the information with us. Each application uses different platforms that might work differently.

In order to get this corrected, I would recommend getting in touch with the TeamWork.com Support to know more about how it integrates with other software like QuickBooks. They might have workarounds they can provide to help you update your invoice time format.

Please know that you're always welcome to drop by if you have any other concerns. Have a great day.

My question is similar but the inverse. My time is entered in decimal format, however when I print the invoice the quantity of hours is converted to hours:minutes. It didn't used to make this conversion, the last time I had hours with a decimal was January and the invoice printed the quantity as a decimal.  How can I make the quantity column in the printed invoice go back to decimal format?

Thank you for joining this discussion here in the Community, greibo1.

Similar cases have been reported about billable time on invoices displaying decimals instead of hours and minutes. Our support team has identified this as an ongoing issue.

While our engineers are looking into this, we'll have to gather your account details to add you to the list of affected users. I suggest you give our Care Support Team a call, so we'll be able to update you about the status of the issue.

An email notification will be sent to you once this gets resolved. We’ll also be providing updates through this thread.

Should there'll be anything else you need or questions about invoice time entries, just let me know as I'm here to answer them.

I'm adding to this thread even though my question is about Quickbooks Desktop 2017 - because I can't seem to create a new question.

I want to have invoices show hours:minutes, and to be able to enter the same way (by manually entering information from a different time tracking system). I only have one client who wants this information on invoices, and they've only asked for this recently.

The time format in Preferences | General | Time Format shows Hours:Minutes, as stated in https://community.intuit.com/articles/1762948-entering-time-in-quickbooks-desktop-payroll-changes-to-decimal-or-minutes-format.  I have not changed this setting.  It was only by reading the article that I found the setting.

I am unable to enter the time on an invoice in hours:minute format even though the setting seems to be correct.  I'm still calculating the decimal hours, which is slow and inconvenient.

Thanks

Mike

Hi there, @5circles.

Thank you for posting in the Community. Allow me to help share some information about time format settings in QuickBooks Desktop.

Yes, you're correct. You can set up the time format in the Preferences. However, this is applicable to fields that require hours such as timesheets and paychecks. For invoices, the column available is Quantity. That's why when you add time, QuickBooks automatically converts it to decimals.

I encourage you to send feedback directly to our product developers. This way, we'll be able to know what product features/options we need to add in the future updates. I'll do the same thing on my end to reinforce your suggestion.

To send your feedback, please go to Help menu, choose Send Feedback Online, then click Product Suggestion.

If you need to reach out for more help, our phone agents will be able to help you get to a resolution quickly. Here's how to get in touch with our QuickBooks Desktop Customer Care team:

  1. Go to https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
  2. At the top right, select your QuickBooks version.
  3. Select a topic.
  4. Click on the Get Phone Number button

That should take care of it.

I appreciate your time today, 5circles. Keep me posted if there's any way I can help you. Have a great day.

Has the issue been resolved yet?  I still cannot invoice in hours and minutes.  How is it available on the desktop version but not the online version?
