Question

Can I set up a budget that reflects a fiscal year that does not coincide with calendar year dates?

I can set up budgets for calendar year 2023 and calendar year 2024, but Budget vs. Actual reports that span say October through April only look at one budget or the other.

Hello, Danimal. Setting up a fiscal year budget that doesn't coincide with calendar dates isn't currently an option in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I'll share more details about this so you can gain better control over your finances and make decisions to achieve your goals.

In QBO, you can only create budgets for the upcoming year, month, or quarter. However, when you generate the Budget vs. Actuals report, you can customize the date range (for example, October 2023 to April 2024) to compare your actual income and expenses with your budget.

For more details about using budgets to help plan your finances, please see this article: Create budgets in QuickBooks Online.

Also, you can set budget targets for each class, enabling you to plan for every segment of your business. To learn more about this process, check out this article: Set budget targets for each class in QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if there's anything that I can help you with in creating budgets and managing your financial data in QBO. You can drop your reply below, and I'll get back to assist you.

I don't believe this is correct. If you print budget vs actuals report with dates that span a calendar year, the report does not look at both budgets, for example both 2023 and 2024.
