Question

Can I set up an invoice to allow partial payments over 6 month period? Will it be possible for a reminder to go out each month for that invoice?

We have families paying for a youth trip next year. We would like for invoice to allow them to make payments in the amount of their choice until it is paid off.

Welcome to the Community, Theater Guy. I'm here to address your invoice inquiry in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

In QBO, you can set up an invoice that allows partial payments over six months by creating a recurring transaction. With this, your customer will receive an automated invoice and a reminder will be sent to them before the transaction date. To set it up, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Gear Icon ⚙.
  2. Under the Lists column, pick Recurring transactions.
  3. On the Recurring transaction page, click on the New tab.
  4. Select the type of transaction to create. In your case, choose Invoice and then select OK.
  5. Enter the Template name.
  6. On the Type section, choose Reminder and enter the day you want to remind your customer before the transaction date.
  7. Fill up the rest of the Recurring Invoice form with the details needed.
  8. Once done, click Save Template.

Right after that, when receiving your customer's partial payment. You can follow the step-by-step guidelines I'll lay out beneath:

  1. Click the + New icon, then choose Receive Payment.
  2. Type in the customer's name, then select the Invoice by putting a check mark.
  3. On the Payment column, enter the partial payment amount.
  4. Once finished, click Save and close.
