Question

Can QuickBooks' system alert me of expired or upcoming expiration dates of customer credit cards, if so, how can I set up the notifications?

Hi there, firstchoicetrans.

Good to see you here in QuickBooks Community. I'm here to help and provide some insights about updating Customer's credit card in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

As of now, there isn't an option to set a notification if when will be the upcoming expiration dates of your customer's credit card. For now, you can update your customer's billing information anytime to avoid any interruption when accepting credit card payments from your customer.

While this option is currently unavailable and I can see how this feature would be helpful for you, I recommend sending feedback directly to our product developers for the future update.

Here's how you can send feedback:

  1. Click the Gear Icon.
  2. Select Feedback
  3. Click Next and choose Feedback under Category option.
  4. Select Save.

For additional reference, you can check this article on how to edit a customer's credit card information.

If you need further assistance with the steps on updating customer's credit from our phone support, you can reach them through this link: Get help with QuickBooks Online.

You're always welcome to post if you have any other questions about customer's credit card. Have a great day ahead.

Yes, having the ability to receive credit card expiry notifications, 1-2 months in advance of a credit card expiring, would be huge.

My business is subscription-based.  I only know when a payment was missed when I see the notice after billing processes.

My customers sign an agreement to provide 30-day advanced written notice to cancel their subscription.  Instead of abiding by these terms and conditions, customers use our services until their cc expires.  They end up getting up to a month of free services, knowing fully well that their payment information will expire. I waste time trying to track them down to collect their final payment.

If I can send a notice to customers whose credit cards will expire in 60 & 30, it would help keep things moving a bit smoother, and reduce billing time and financial loss.

Adding this feature is a great idea. I hope it gets added soon.

You should have a subscription management app to have this feature and integrate it with QBO.
