Question

Can several payments against invoices be itemized by line? I want each payment to show as a line item. Is there a way to do this ?

If I invoice for $5000 and the payments are made in multiple increments, how can I show my customer each payment as a line item with the balance due?

Hello there, @escape2.

I'm here to guide you to set up progress invoicing to show several payments against your invoice that have been paid in multiple increments. With progress invoicing, you can split an estimate into multiple invoices and request partial payments rather than asking for full payment at the start of a project.

Let's turn on progress invoicing by following these steps:

  1. Go to Settings, then Account and Settings.
  2. Go to the Sales tab.
  3. In the Progress Invoicing section, click Edit.
  4. Turn on the Create multiple partial invoices from a single estimate switch.
  5. In the Update your invoice template? window, select Update.
  6. Hit Save, then Done.

After that, you can continue creating the progress invoice and modifying the details, ensuring it matches the payments and date per transaction.

You can check this article for more advanced steps in creating progress invoicing: Set up and send progress invoices in QuickBooks Online.

Moreover, you can create recurring invoice transactions in QuickBooks Online for daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly transactions. For example, receiving monthly invoice payments.
