I just copied my original company in my QBO account to a new company. I noticed that I can edit the menu of my old company but not the menu of my new company. Should I be able to edit the menu for my new company?

@MariaSoledadG, thanks for your message. I tried your suggestions but none of them worked. Any other suggestions?

Hello, wreade78.

I'll share additional information about customizing the navigation menu in QuickBooks Online.

You're right. The old company can edit the left navigation menu in the Accountant view. This option is unavailable with the release of the new Bookmark feature.

From early August through the end of 2022, new companies can only change the navigation panel in the Business view. However, soon it will be available in the Accountant's view.

In the meantime, you can switch to the Business view if you want to customize the left navigation panel.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Switch to Business view.
  3. Click the pencil icon to customize your menu.

For your reference, you can read this article to learn more about the different views in QuickBooks Online: Switch between Business and Accountant view in QuickBooks Online.

I've also added this resource to guide you if you need to change some settings or turn on features in QuickBooks Online: Edit company settings in QuickBooks Online.

Hi there, @wreade78. I'll go over and get your QuickBooks Online menu customized.

Your default view is based on when you first set up QuickBooks. We can edit the navigation menu from the Accountant view of the old company. However, this option is unavailable with the release of the new Bookmark feature.

You can switch to Business view if you want to utilize the option to customize your menu. Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. From the lower right part, click Switch to Business view.

To learn more about the different views in QBO, please refer to this article: How to switch views in QuickBooks Online.

Furthermore, feel free to visit this guide to learn more about navigating QBO: Understand the navigation menu in QuickBooks Online. It includes a detailed step-by-step procedure for using the bookmark feature to shorten the steps for your most common QuickBooks tasks.

Please tag me if you have other concerns about managing your display preferences. I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Stay safe, and enjoy navigating!

@Carneil_C, thanks for your reply. To be clear, though, in my old company, in the accountant view, I can see the option for editing the accountant menu. I don't see that option in my new company, in the accountant view. I've attached a screenshot. Should I see that option in my accountant view in my new company? Thanks!

Let's find out why you do not see the edit option in your new company file, wreade78.

You're not possibly assigned as the Company Admin to your new company file. That's why you don't see the edit option and are experiencing limitations when accessing your QuickBooks Online (QBO) subscription. You'll want to make sure that you're assigned as the Primary Admin so you'll have access to every part of your QuickBooks account. To check your user role, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Select Settings ⚙.
  2. Select Manage users.

But, if you're assigned as the Company admin and yet you're not seeing the edit option. We can perform some troubleshooting steps to fix the issue. You can log in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account in a private window (incognito). Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox).
  • Control Option (Safari).

Once done, you can check if you're seeing the edit option. If you're able to view the option, return to your default browser and clear the cache to speed up the loading process. Every so often the cache becomes overwhelmed with older data which can potentially cause viewing and performance issues. Clearing it will refresh the system, and you'll be able to work with a clean slate. However, if the issue persists, try using other supported browsers.

Furthermore, in case you'll want to change the transfer of the primary admin role to an existing user or add a new user in QBO. Go through this article for your guide: Change The Primary Admin User In QuickBooks Online.
