We run jobs with multiple classes.  Is there a way to enter a budget by Job AND by Class?

Hello again, H7.

When creating a budget, you only either select Customer:Job or Class. Thus, the option to do both is unavailable. I can see how the feature you're looking for is beneficial to your business.

Our developers periodically update and release new features for QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). They might change how this works in the future. To be updated with our latest news and updates, including product improvements, I encourage you to visit the What's New section on your QBDT account or open this link to view our product update blogs.

Yes, you can, @H7.

However, if you can only create specific criteria of either Job or by Class. Let me guide you how in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) software.

  1. Go to the Company menu and hover over Planning & Budgeting.
  2. Select Set Up Budgets.
  3. Click Create New Budget.
  4. Set the fiscal year for the budget, then choose either Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet, then select Next.
  5. If you select Profit and Loss, you can add additional criteria, such as Jobs or Class tracking.
  6. Select either Create budget from scratch or Create budget from the previous year's actual data.
  7. Then click Finish.

You can also check this article for more details about the process: Create a budget or forecast in QuickBooks Desktop.

I’ve also added this link that can help you reconcile your accounts seamlessly in the future: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

I see how to setup a budget by Job OR Class, but I need to do it by both.  I am setting Budgets by Job with different Classes included in the (1) Job.

For example I have Job 123 and we have (3) class types for this job, ABC.  How can I put in the budget for Job 123 that $X goes to Class A, and $Y go to Class B, and $Z go to Class C?

Attached is a spread sheet with an example of a Budget I am trying to setup in QB for a Job with different Job Classes.
