"Create Statement" gives error message: "Total balance doesn’t include unapproved transactions."

When I try to create a statement for a customer with open invoices I get an error: "Total balance doesn’t include unapproved transactions."

 

The total balance shown on the Create Statement page is $0.00. The open balance shown on the Customer & Leads page is quite a bit more.

 

What am I missing?

I figured it out. Even though there is an option to Create Statement in the drop-down menu on the right, apparently it is non-functional for sub-customers. Create Statements seems to be only available for top-level customers, which is kind of disappointing.
