The new layout of invoices is awful.  I would never choose to send this to my customers if I had an option.  I can understand making changes, but not being able to choose what our invoice looks like is ridiculous.  At least they could have given us options, or to make the changes but to be able to keep the same look of our invoices would be beneficial.  This sucks.  I'm embarrassed that this is what my company's invoices now look like now.  Shame on you QB

Here's the most confusing part about all of this. The majority of people will never say anything, even if they are happy/unhappy. So many of us voiced that this was removing key features or disrupting our workflow. So WHY did they do this? If it was to update something they needed to update on the backend I could understand that. If they just wanted to change the look, I could understand that. But this seems to be completely arbitrary and did so many things people hate. WHY? What was the point of this? We're all clearly upset but they are a company and even though they don't care about us personally they do want us to keep using the software. Breaking all of these things and messing with our workflows can't be good for business. WHY Quickbooks? Could you just help us understand what the heck you guys are thinking? It might go a long way if we knew this wasn't for no reason at all.

So frustrating.

@tansparRE: So many of us voiced that this was removing key features or disrupting our workflow. So WHY did they do this?

It's a mystery. I can't figure it out. Intuit hardly ever does something like this, "improving" a core feature like invoicing by removing a slew of functionality that customers depend on - and then saying it's better than before.

Objectively the new invoices are horrible. They're missing a slew of features and when they're printed they look like cartoon invoices. They're so terrible it boggles the mind.

I despise it.   You took away the ability to pay the invoice from the invoice.  What used to be a  one step process,  create invoice, take  payment.  Now requires me to create invoice.  Then go to a seperate "PAYMENT" tab, go to the invoice BUT it is just a number without information, so  I am always concerned that it is not the correct invoice or amount.

I DESPISE IT.

Pay $25 bucks a month to use a downloaded affiliate "Quotient" for their proposals, look more professional but not great.  It basically is a CRM that transfers over to QB, which converts QB over to a glorified checkbook.

December 13, 2023

I 100% hate the new invoices.  I need to reload my QB 2005 and ditch this crap

December 14, 2023

Yup . It's absolutely atrocious !!!

I'm starting to think about ditching Quick book . The invoice lay outs were always one of the things I've hated .

And in 2023 we're still having to deal with thinks like that . I guess they are too busy pushing on online payments thru them than to actually think what users think . Don't even get me started on all the pop ups and annoying " Recommended banners that make everything looks like we're not paid users ,but using that for free .

December 15, 2023

Yes, I absolutely hate the new look! We have been asking for years for a new way to charge customers for transaction fees, and instead, they roll out this unnecessary change. Quickbooks never listens to their customers, they simply give the same tired and scripted answers in the forums. I had to do my own research to find another program to pass the fees on to the customer for the invoices.

December 18, 2023

what's the name of that program?

December 18, 2023

I can learn to live with it except that it's missing an important feature: There's no "Payments" link inside the invoice to see what payments have bee applied to the invoice. I have a customer who invoices her clients MULTIPLE times per month and names the invoices crazy/very similar things. I can't hunt around to see what payments were applied! RESTORE THIS FEATURE PLEASE!!

December 18, 2023

Hello there, @Laura11_2

I understand that having a Payment link feature within your invoices can be very convenient as it streamlines your business workflow. However, if you're using the old layout, this feature isn't available on the invoice page. In such a case, I suggest that you send a product request to our product development team so that they can consider adding this functionality to future software updates.

Here's how you can send a feedback:

  1. Select the Gear icon, then choose Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  3. Select Next to submit.

I don't expect sending feedback  will be useful at all,  I expect it goes directly into the bit bucket, because I SURE do not see any feedback that was positive for the new invoice and they still did it.

YES!!! I cannot stand this, I finally got my webpage invoice setup the way I want it. But no matter what I do, my mobile APP is different, looks horrible and I cannot screen shot + text the invoice to a customer without having to crop the image before sending. Its awful and I wish they would stop changing things over and over without telling anyone. Now I have to spend my entire Saturday afternoon making the invoice on the web, sending it through email to my cell phone, cropping and sending that to the customer and apologizing to them. It makes me and my company look unprofessional.

If QuickBooks keeps doing these random updates, I'm goin to be lookin for a different book keeping service.

QBs grossly fails to understand that their entire product line is irrelevant if you (we) do not make the sale. Our early interactions with our customers are frequently via a quote. Requiring excessive time to provide that quote, or  providing an unprofessional looking quote, hampers our ability to make the sale. Thus rendering all of QBs other features useless. If QBs understood business 101 they would be putting every effort to fix the quote and invoice system. But judging from their lack of customer service, I think it is fair to claim they do not understand business. Time to start looking...

RE: Requiring excessive time to provide that quote, or  providing an unprofessional looking quote, hampers our ability to make the sale.

Are you saying your potential customers are not impressed by a cartoonish quote that looks like it was designed for children?

But I bet it looks great on a phone! And that's what's important, right?

Seriously though, it helps to remember that QuickBooks Online is of late basically designed by children who have never run a business and clearly have no idea what efficient data entry look like, how to build easy to use features, what business forms look like, or what is important to small businesses. Their recent updates make this clear.

Once you understand that, and lower your expectations way, way down, then you'll be happy with QuickBooks Online.

Welcome to the Community space, @Housermp.

I am here to provide some insights about the sudden reverting of your estimate in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

It is possible that the estimate layout reverts to the old layout after switching to the new one because you may have previously opted out of the updated layout. This behavior is not an error since it is working as designed. Therefore, there is no need to fix anything.

Thus, I recommend sending feedback to our Product Engineers. This will help them better understand how to improve existing features and create new ones to better serve our customers.

Here's how:

  1. Select the Gear icon, then choose Feedback.
  2. Type in your product suggestions.
  3. Select Next to submit.

In regards to your customized template for an estimate, since you can't find the customized template of your estimate, let's troubleshoot to fix this.

Sometimes, your browser may encounter data issues, thus causing some unusual responses. To verify, log in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser. To do so, press this shortcut key on your keyboard:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

If this works, you need to clear the browser's cache so the system can start fresh. If the issue persists in a private browser, consider using a different supported browser.

Moreover, I'm adding this helpful article as your reference in converting your estimates to an invoice in QBO: Convert an estimate into an invoice in QuickBooks Online.

I submit a "suggestion" ever frickin day about the "changes". Nothing has been done to FIX any of the mess that was made with the last update, not ONE thing has been fixed!

April 1, 2024

YES! I do hate all of the changes and I also submit constant requests / complaints.  I wish they would just leave everything alone.  I used QBO for at least 10 years and have introduced many clients to them.  You would think they would consider feedback from someone who has been such a great customer.

April 5, 2024

I absolutely loathe not just the new invoice but that it has been rammed down my throat without an option to choose the layout I prefer. The look is terrible in that the font is too small and yet the lines take up more space than the old invoice and many times bleed over onto a second page. Extra pages mean using more PC storage when saving. It means using more of my customer’s paper and ink when faxed and more of their electronic storage when they save them. The former invoice design had clear concise dividers and was much easier on the eyes. That you can only enter a couple of line items and then have an extra step to keep adding now is ridiculous. That every invoice for my COD customers now says it’s late at the bottom is not appreciated. So, I am having to save each invoice that customers require me to fax and manually edit them down to a single page and remove the overdue notification. I immediately notified QB that I do not want the new layout, I have notified them again every time, a questionnaire for feedback pops up, and let them know every time I have to talk to them about something else on the phone. Every CS rep I have spoken with claims they understand and receive many complaints. I have been given instruction and see instruction listed in this conversation about how to switch back to the old layout. While, it appears to be an option, it should not even be there because it is non-functional. I am disgruntled enough that I have been shopping other accounting management options. 😤

April 24, 2024

I definitely hate the new invoice setup. I am a ProAdvisor and my clients are calling or emailing me daily asking me what to do. For my fairly newer clients, I had already customized invoices for them and then bam! this change occurred. I can’t even charge them for attempting to fix this because I had convinced them to convert to QBO and none of this is their fault. Why QBO makes these changes that make things much worse is beyond my understanding. They should never make changes that affect every user overall. It should be a choice. I am going to start researching other financial software options and convert my clients to something else. Does anyone know of other options?

April 24, 2024

Also, does anyone know if QBO Advanced is experiencing these same issues?  Not sure if this nightmare was forced onto that level as I don’t have any clients using it.

April 24, 2024

We hear you, Dmack1987.

We understand that the recent changes made to the invoice layout in QuickBooks Online (QBO) have caused some confusion and inconvenience for you and other users. We want to assure you that these changes have affected all QBO editions, including QBO Advanced, QuickBooks Plus, and QuickBooks Essentials.

However, for the Simple Start and Essential versions, the new layout experience will be permanent. On the other hand, the option to switch back to the old layout will be available for Plus and Advanced subscriptions.

We acknowledge that change can be challenging, but we made these adjustments to improve the user experience and streamline the invoicing process for everyone. However, we understand that some users may prefer the old layout, and we have made it possible for you to switch back to it that is if you're a Plus and Advanced user.

To switch back to the old layout, follow these steps:

1. Click on the + New button.

2. Select Invoice

3. Click on the Old Layout button located in the top-right corner of the screen.

4. Press the Switch to old layout button.

In addition, we offer the flexibility to switch back and forth between the old and new layouts, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.
